Career Technical Education (CTE)

Introduction

Champaign Unit 4 School District is committed to bringing our students a robust CTE Program experience. Our CTE department strives to create environments where students develop legitimate and transferable knowledge, skills, and abilities in preparation for both the workforce and post-secondary education. We offer a wide variety of courses designed to appeal to every student with a focus on practical application, high levels of student engagement, skill development, problem solving, and career opportunities. We believe each student can be successful in our courses, and we work hard to provide an inclusive environment in our classroom and lab spaces.

Champaign CUSD offers Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses at both high school campuses and off-campus locations. CTE includes programs in Business, Family and Consumer Science, and Industrial Technology. Business courses offered include Computer Applications, Multimedia Production, Sports and Entertainment, and Accounting. Family and Consumer Science courses cover Nutrition and Culinary Arts, as well as Child Development and Parenting. In Industrial Technology, students can take courses in Woodworking, Carpentry, and Welding. A complete list of courses is available in the Curriculum Handbook.

CTE courses are available to all grade levels, allowing students to build skills, apply academic knowledge, and explore careers. Many CTE courses offer industry-recognized credentials or licenses while earning elective credit, including certifications in Microsoft Excel, Food Handler and Food Service Management, and OSHA 10. Juniors and seniors can also enroll in the Early College and Career Academy (ECCA), which enables them to earn dual credit (both college and high school) while gaining skills in various Parkland College programs. ECCA courses, taken at Parkland College, allow students to earn 10–14 credits per school year and often include industry-recognized credentials. Course offerings include Criminal Justice, Certified Nurse Assistant, Precision Agriculture, and Emergency Medical Services/Fire Service. A complete list of courses is available here.
